o Treasures – Rich and Pam Hemmenway
o Regional Vice President – Tone Kelly
·
Angel Nardone expressed concern over a decision
made by the AWS Board of Directors to have amateur and professional wine tastings
occur in
o how the decision was made,
o additional costs it creates for the conference, and
o process challenges it brings to getting the wines form the tasting event to the conference for the membership to enjoy
· Angel is working with other AWS members to create a document expressing concern to the new Board of Directors. She will assure we have documentation on the Chapter website and a communication to the Chapter membership re: the process and outcome
· Steve DiFrancesco, Glenora’s wine maker, spent quite a bit of time speaking about barrel fermenting vs. aging as well as barrel making and the impact on the wine’s outcome
· Hurricane’s Katrina and Rita made 2005 a difficult year for wines
· Tasting was challenging as much of the 05’s are sold out
· Dr Frank’s Pinot Gris is intense, Sheldrake more buttery. Oily finishes, similar to Oregon Pinot’s
· Under-planting
of Rieslings is a great
· Riesling is terrior driven. Around Chateau LaFayette Renault is a very unique terrior for the Rieslings
· Older NY Rieslings are very desirable – Michael Warren Thomas will mow your lawn for a year for some 1960’s!
· Vidal Blanc – an old world hybrid from the 1880’s
· 04
and 05 difficult winters have made it very difficult to get Gewürztraminer and
so Traminette has become very desirable.
